Lunch Sketchie

Bloop! ;o) (Its a bobcat!)

Raymond

This poley bear is dedicated to a certain Raymond...who looks much like a bear (in the best and most flattering of ways), and believes in walking slow. Which is definitely what polar bears do when given the opportunity. I think they also enjoy napping in cars and clam chowder. ;o)

Take Me To Your Leader

Toucans remind me of aliens. Just look at their unearthly colors! They're basically a flying neon disco ball...aka UFO!!! I will have to remember to be careful around the toucan exhibit at the zoo next time I visit...lest I get beamed up. Although that kind of sounds like fun...

Bawr Bawr!

Now, upon first glance, you might be saying to yourself "This girl is on crack! No bear is THAT shaggy!" But you would be WRONG! There is such a furry beast in the world! Check out google images for "sloth bear". You will see that I am 100% in the right, and that these fantastically huggable bears DO exist. My feelings about these bears can be summed up in one short word.

HOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;o)

On a sadder note, the population of these AWESOME bears has been greatly diminished due to poaching (WTF NOT OKAY WITH THAT), so if you want to support the cause then check out this website. W0rd.

I Love Fishies

Well, this weekend was so much fun that I didn't have a ton of energy for today's animal...so I gave him a little color to hide the fact that he's a lazy Monday kind of a sketch ;o) I wish grown ups still had a designated nap time like kids do in kindergarten. This system is totally backward! Little kids don't need naps! They already get plenty of sleep! Take me on the other hand...I could really use one...

For Mike...

...because he loves simplicity ;o) And because its Friday, and sunny, and Christine doesn't want to be in her office!

Happy Friday!

The three dogs above are from the vault...but they barked at me when I was posting the two below, so I decided to include them anyways ;o)

I love the Woodland Park Zoo's description of these sweet looking dogs, "Like Monet, but mangier." HAHA! So true! They have the most amazing patterned fur (no two alike...wow)! Not to mention their gigantic satellite dish shaped ears and their loooonnnggg lanky legs built for speed- watching them run is probably one of the coolest things ever. For those of you in the Seattle area, go visit them and see for yourselves! ;o)

NOTE: The penguin exhibit opens at the zoo next weekend! EXCIIITTEEEDD!!!

Mongolia

...So maybe I should change this blog to, at LEAST one animal per day...haha. Oh well. Sooner or later I'll start running out of steam, so I figure an extra post here or there will make up for it ;o) Here's a pencil study and a quick brush sketch that I did a while ago. I'm obsessed with these Przewalksi horses...THEY ARE COOL AS HELL! Someday I'm going to go live in a yurt in Mongolia, drink vodka and yak's milk, and ride the steppes on the trail of Ghengis Khan. PS If you've never seen the movie "Mongol"...I can't be your friend.

T is for Ty-ger

There is something about adolescent animals that haven't yet grown into their adult sized paws that sends a little squiggle of joy up and down my spine...hehe! Last winter I was fortunate enough to visit the largest Siberian tiger reserve in the world located in Harbin, China, and thats where I took the photo reference for this sketch. Did you know that all tigers have a similar marking on their forehead which resembles the Chinese symbol Wang, meaning "King"? Guess we know who the real king of the jungle is now...RAWWRRRR!!! ;o)

On the same subject...

...Okay, so I know I said one per day, but I couldn't resist posting another type of TOES that I simply adore-chameleon toes! HOW DO THEY WORK!?!?!? And why do chameleons look so nervous/terrified all the time? Haha. What a world we live in.

Oats and Glitter

Hello Everyone! ;o) And welcome to my blog, where I will (hopefully) be adding a new animal every 24 hours. My first post is dedicated to a certain reindeer in LA...has anyone ever noticed the TOES on a reindeer? They are gigantic! I wonder what it feels like to stand on saucer feet like that...in any case, on Comet, on Cupid, on Donder and Blitzen! ;o)

FUN FACT: Reindeer acquire their amazing ability to fly by eat glitter-spiked oats. Fascinating!
